The Barony Beyond the Mountain (aka BBM), is a local branch of the Society for Creative Anachronism (aka SCA) in the East Kingdom, and encompasses northern and eastern Connecticut.

The SCA is a not-for-profit, educational organization, devoted to recreating pre-17th century culture and skills in the present time. We explore all of history prior to 1600. The SCA offers all of the arts and activities of the time that you can imagine: armored combat and archery; fencing and calligraphy; cooking and weaving; and many other things.

The Barony sponsors and teaches many activities as a group and through the endeavors of our members: archery, spinning, armored combat, calligraphy, axe and knife throwing, weaving, embroidery, cooking, blacksmithing, and much more. We have demonstrated our skills many times at the Connecticut Fiber Festival, and also at libraries and makers’ fairs.
The SCA is a wonderful place to make friends, learn disappearing crafts, and appreciate our rich history. We would love to meet you! Please explore our newcomers’ section, contact one of our officers for more information, and join us at any of the activities on the calendar below.

The Barony’s official means of communication with the populace is via the Chanticleer (the Baronial newsletter,) and the Yahoo email group. Information will also be posted on this website. Please check those sources for official announcements.

Welcome to the Current Middle Ages!

Do you have an activity that you would like listed on the Baronial calendar? Please send an email to the seneschal and the webminister with all the details. Even during COVID, we are still here, still doing activities, and still getting together (virtually!) with our friends.
