So I don’t have a bunch to show because I’m busy stitching, stitching, stitching. Since I didn’t want to miss the check in I figured I would show the pictures I put in my personal blog last night. Upside I might have the first layer of the yagmurlak (outer lined kaftan) sewn together tonight. And I’m actually kind of impressed that my hand sewing isn’t taking as long as I feared. At this rate I should have the zibin (under tunic), the layers of the yagmurlak (outer lined kaftan) and the caskir (pants) finished by Sunday evening. Or at least that is my hope. I’m hopeful I can finish the yagmurlak by Monday or Tuesday.

I had thoughts about the lining I referenced in an earlier post. It really isn’t any different then the lining we do normally, it’s not really any different than we normally do. It’s just adding a pretty bit of fabric between the outer layer and inner layer. I’m including a pic of an extant piece to show what I mean. But really you still have to sew that fabric to the outer layer the same as if you were just sewing the inner layer to the outer layer. I don’t know if I’m making sense to someone looking at it from the outside of my brain; hopefully the picture will help.

But I was excited last night to post Stitches and my first seam.

    Hello!

(I’m getting caught up after some personal health issues) I’m finding it hard to keep track of all the specialized words for all the garments–can I request the common terms be included for the pieces you’re working on so I can get a mental grip on it without having to keep multiple windows open to cross reference definitions? Even just something like “sewed on my camicia (body linen) today” would help a lot for those of us less familiar with the native and foreign language terms (and help us learn them!).

      Hi Beatrice,
I hope you are feeling better. That’s a good point and something I hadn’t thought of when making updates. I had made a comment on FB that I have come to realize the problem I have with documentation is that I’ve spent so much time with websites, articles and books is that I forget what I read where and by the time I ‘m ready to do the write up I almost have to start over. I know it’s what always hinders me from doing the write ups for my feasts, I look at the things I’ve saved (I’m bad at culling things that didn’t have information that I used) and get disgusted and say screw it. I keep meaning to go back over my feasts and at least do blog posts on my special dishes from the various feasts on my personal blog then share them but every time I start I just get annoyed because while the info is in my head I have to go hunt it back up and write up in a way that makes sense to a non-cook. Even though I still wonder if I lost my mind by signing up for this project it has been great for getting me to make updates on a normal schedule and for trying to really push my documentation muscles.
