Nailbinding Socks

finished Nailbinding Socks

I worked hard teaching myself to nailbind the last 3 weeks. I choose the Oslo Stitch and used Lots of Socks by Larry Schmitt and Nailbinding by Nusse Mellgren as well as every you tube video out there. In my first attempt I started at the toes, looped around.

In my next attempt I divided the heel. I used this site to construct my socks, http://valkrija.com/needle binding This time I started with a round start and divided where the heel starts, than added the heel latter. Because I have a wide foot and high instep, I had to add a lot more stitches and in places she does not tell you to. I love my finished pair! They fit well and are comfortable. Nailbinding can be found as far back as 10,000 years ago in a cave in Nahant Heartland Israel. We can also look at the Coppergate sock found in York England. For a good historical view check out Viking Lady Anne on WordPress. I finished these socks 3:00 am yesterday.

Hi Carmelina! I’m Valya, one of your judges. I’m impressed by how quickly you learned naalbinding and constructed your socks! I’m interested in seeing a closeup image of the finished socks in the future. Keep up the good work, and good luck!
