day twenty-five: feet don’t fail me now

I need to make a foot for my hose. It’s proving more difficult that I anticipated, and it’s annoying me.

And then I looked at my foot.

look. it’s one pair of scissors away from a pattern.

I had opened up the seam of the leg portion, so I quickly basted that back together, put on the leg part with the sock on, and drew some lines.

I realize that I will need to add a lot of ease since this is a knit fabric stretched over my foot, but I think that it will help me see the shape I need.

I have lots of socks. Let’s see how this goes!

I… um… I forgot how much knits roll up when cut.

guess i’ll try to iron this out

Ironing it didn’t work.

so I guess I’ll pin it to my wool ironing mat on top of a piece of paper and trace it.

I need to tweak the shape a bit, but don’t you think it looks like some sort of a bat?

later… Still working on it. I’ve been through two iterations of mockups, and I think I almost have it. I have the toe shape and the width worked out, anyway.

I think what I’m going to do is trace it again, straighten out the bottom edge and work out that shape with the leg of the hose. I still have to figure out the thigh portion of the hose, but as that’s basically a slightly tapered tube I’m not that worried. I really want to get this squared away so I can make the major parts of the hose tomorrow, do the tops on Thursday, and get it all finished and assembled on Friday for judging on Saturday.

I gotta get some sleep, though. Night, y’all.

That does look a bit like my hide shoe pattern.

I have come up with so many shapes trying to work this pattern out… Never mind sliced bread, the standard for awesomeness should be “the best thing since knitted socks”!
